CLUB HISTORY
Established in 1885, Essendon Bowls Club has a proud rich history of serving the community and enjoying success on its Windy Hill greens.
The club is one of Melbourne’s ten elite bowls clubs with a team in the Premier Division and proudly having several state and national representative players amongst the ranks. Offering a range of weekly opportunities, the club has 12 pennant teams (up to 16 players in each) : six in Saturday pennant, four in mid-week pennant and two in night pennant.
Coaching is available for both new and experienced bowlers. All bowl members, social members and guests can make the most of the clubs wonderful facilities and entertainment social calendar. The club offers Barefoot Bowls which is a fun team building activity.
Essendon Bowls Club is open to everyone – to play bowls, socialise, watch games or use its facilities. The club is also available to hire as a venue. It’s the perfect location for parties, work gatherings, events and corporate functions. The venue offers an excellent kitchen, well-stocked bar and wonderful outdoor space on the deck.
MANAGEMENT (INCLUDING BOARD)
The Essendon Bowls Club is led by a Board of Management. The Board is appointed by the members yearly at the Annual General Meeting in June. Eligible club members can nominate for election to the Board.The Board sets a range of goals and targets addressing:
- Players – performance, development and support
- Members – recruitment, engagement and community involvement
- Facilities – clubrooms and greens
- Club Management – business planning and decision-making structures
A series of sub-committees and other officials play lead roles in a broad range of Club activities
